Dozens die as blaze engulfs train in India

Updated at 4:03 a.m. ET: HYDERABAD, India -- A fire swept through a train car packed?with sleeping passengers in southern India on Monday, killing at?least 47 people and sending panicked survivors rushing for the only?clear exit once the train stopped, officials said.

Investigators found charred remains of victims still in their?sleeping berths and were struggling to identify them.

A railway station worker noticed the burning coach as the?overnight train from New Delhi to the southeastern city of Chennai?passed through the town of Nellore at about 4 a.m. local time,?official B. Sridhar. Nellor is nearly 310 miles?south of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state.

Once the alarm was raised, the train was stopped and the?passenger car detached from the rest of the train to prevent the?blaze from spreading.

Electrical short?
Passengers were evacuated once the train was halted.

"Since the fire had engulfed one door of the coach, people had?to rush to the other end of the coach to exit," Sridhar told The?Associated Press by telephone, speaking from the accident site.

He said the fire may have been caused by an electrical short?circuit in the coach.

The blaze killed 47 people, said Anil Kumar, regional railway?manager.

At least 28 other passengers were hospitalized with burns,?Sridhar said, adding that at least two of the injured were in?critical condition.

Railway and medical workers were now trying to identify the?dead, he said.

"This is a very difficult task, since some of the bodies are?charred beyond recognition," Sridhar said, adding that officials?are making preliminary identification based on the reservations?chart from the train's records.

India has one of the world's largest train networks. Around 20?million people in India travel by train each day.

The Noble Eightfold Path ? The Mystic Circle

In Buddhism, the Noble Eightfold Path is the way to the end of suffering. ?It is a practical guideline to ethical and mental development with the goal of freeing the individual from attachments and delusions; and it finally leads to understanding the truth about all things.? (Knierim). These are not to be seen as steps, but as individual principles that have relationships with each other. What are these principles? They are: right understanding, right thinking, right speech, right conduct, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. They are broken into three separate groups: Wisdom (Panna) for the first two; Ethical Conduct (Sila) for the next three; and Mental Development (Samadhi) for the last three.

Right Understanding (samma ditthi): This means to see things as they really are. It also means to recognize and understand the Four Noble Truths (Robinson). One must?understand: impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly objects and ideas; and the law of karma. ?Since our view of the world forms our thoughts and our actions, right view yields right thoughts and right?actions.? (Knierim).
Right Thinking/Intention (samma sankappa): This refers to the cognitive aspect of wisdom. It can be described as ?following the right path in life? (Robinson). It can be described as a commitment to ethical and mental self-improvement. ?Buddha distinguishes three types of right intentions: (1) the intention of renunciation, which means resistance to the pull of desire, (2) the intention of good will, meaning resistance to feelings of anger and aversion, and (3) the intention of harmlessness, meaning not to think or act cruelly, violently, or aggressively, and to develop?compassion.? (Knierim).
Right Speech (samma vaca): Do not lie. Do not criticize. Do not condemn. Do not gossip. Do not use harsh language. To put it in a more positive text: ?this means to tell the truth, to speak friendly, warm, and gently and to talk only when?necessary.? (Knierim).
Right Conduct (samma kammanta): This involves the body as a natural means of expression, as it refers to the deeds that involve bodily actions. ?Unwholesome actions lead to unsound states of mind, while wholesome actions lead to sound?states of mind.? (Knierim). This also says that we must follow the Five Precepts (Robinson).
Right Livelihood (samma ajiva): One should make their living in a legal and peaceful way. One should not harm others to gain their wealth.
Right Effort (samma vayama): Promote good thoughts and conquer evil thoughts. ?Without effort, which is in itself?an act of will, nothing can be achieved, whereas misguided effort distracts the mind from its task, and confusion will?be the consequence.? (Knierim).
Right Mindfulness (samma sati): ?Become aware of your body, mind and feelings.? (Robinson). Right mindfulness is rooted in clear perception and it penetrates impressions without getting carried away.
Right Concentration (samma samadhi): One must meditate to achieve a higher consciousness, which develops right concentration.

As you can see, the Noble Eightfold Path has so much Truth in it. These are great principles to apply to your life. Hopefully it will help lead us away from the path of suffering, into the path that leads to Nirvana.

The role of insurance brokers will shift with new health insurance exchanges

Federal health care reform means big changes for consumers as millions of previously uninsured people gain access to coverage for the first time.

But the recently upheld Affordable Care Act could also signal a core shift in the industry of insurance brokers and agents, some of whom fear their role will be supplanted by the creation of health insurance exchanges.?

Under the Affordable Care Act, states must establish the exchanges as a way for people to search for and buy insurance plans that suit their needs, particularly individuals who don?t have access to a health plan through an employer or spouse, as well as small businesses seeking to cover employees.?

Some insurance agents and brokers feel that Washington?s planned "health benefit exchange," a public-private partnership, steps on the toes of their business. Agents typically work with specific insurance companies and help consumers choose a plan within that company?s offerings, while brokers advise clients on insurance plans offered by a broad spectrum of companies.?

The exchanges will include some form of "navigator," people trained to explain the various options available to those seeking insurance coverage. Currently, Washington has a group of about 400 volunteers who perform a similar function as part of the SHIBA program, or Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors.?

With the establishment of the state exchange, "They?re taking my job and giving it to someone else ? that?s how I see it," said Richard Miller, a local insurance agent and financial adviser. Health insurance clients make up about a third of his business, or about 250 people.?

The state Legislature determined this year that navigators will not need to be licensed in order to provide those services. In Miller?s opinion, however, volunteers or navigators who do not have a brokerage license will not be able to provide the expert advice that consumers need to choose the best plan for their situation.?

State insurance commissioner Mike Kreidler said part of the reasoning was that much of the training needed by agents and brokers, who require very specific, technical knowledge of certain plans, would not be relevant to navigators, and would be an "additional cost to the system with no measureable benefit."

Navigators would also represent a shift away from the tradition of neighborhood insurance agents who have served the same clients for years.

"I?m sure (navigators) would be well-meaning and want to do the right thing, but nothing takes the place of a personal relationship" between agent and client, Miller said. "There are some products and services that we?re willing to buy electronically or over the phone. ... Insurance isn?t one of them, especially health insurance."

The Affordable Care Act lists brokers and agents as potential navigators, but as such, they wouldn?t be compensated by insurance companies for enrolling people in their plans, so Miller doesn?t see it as a viable option.?

Most brokers and agents work on commission and are paid only when their client buys a particular plan.?

But even before the federal reform law passed, insurance companies were reducing and, in some cases, eliminating commissions for smaller plans, which has put agents and brokers in the difficult position of trying to provide services for little or no compensation.?

"What do I say to a long-time client who has been having me handle their insurance, and all of a sudden I don?t get paid for it anymore?" Miller asked.?

Some see the decline in commissions as a push to move toward a fee-based payment model, where agents and brokers are paid as consultants for every visit.?

That?s the structure employed by Dan Fisher, owner of Yakima-based EMSpring, a brokerage firm that relies on commission for only about half its income.?

"We?ve had no problem with the changes coming our way in the industry ? reducing commission schedules, etc. ? because we are used to charging fees," Fisher said of his company. However, he said, "Some brokers are very threatened by that."

As for the exchanges, Fisher said it remains to be seen how that will affect his business. He and his firm already perform the navigator function, he said, and will continue to do so.

"The exchanges, I think, would help bring more people in the form of navigators to aid the consumer in making correct choices. That?s a good thing," he said. "Whether it competes with us or not, that?s irrelevant to the public."

The real risk, he says, is that the companies that his business serves might decide to discontinue their employees? insurance coverage, under the assumption that their employees will now be able to find insurance on their own through the exchanges.?

If employers look simply at the line-item cost, then it would be much less expensive to have their employees get insurance through the exchange, Fisher said. But that has to be weighed against the evidence that an established company health plan contributes to lower turnover and healthier employees, who in turn are more productive, he added.?

Insurance commissioner Kreidler said he actually sees health care reform as a boon to insurance agents and brokers, as millions of previously uninsured people nationwide will now need to find health insurance.?

"I think, far from doom and gloom, (reform) represents an opportunity for insurance producers" with good client relationships, Kreidler said. "Not just with the influx of all the people with inquiries, but because they?ve developed that relationship and that?s where individuals will seek advice in the future."

What Else Are You Going to Do?

Over the last four decades of her life, my mother?s health has been on a gradual decline. Today, she suffers from high blood pressure and pre-diabetes symptoms. Poor lifestyle decisions and a paucity of knowledge about healthy living have taken their toll. She also spent those years putting off care of herself, as she worked hard at her low paying job while raising two children practically on her own.

But since she retired she?s been busy making changes.

Every month when I visit she seems to have added another healthy habit to her daily routine. She walks outside. She has a treadmill for wintertime. I?ve even stumbled across her running on it. Running! At 70 years old. A son couldn?t be more proud.

Her diet has improved. There are more greens prepared for every meal when I?m there, and I?m no longer the only one eating them. She mixes spinach into mashed potatoes. She makes fruit smoothies for breakfast. And she?s constantly watching cooking shows and scouring the web for healthy recipes.

Because what else is she going to do?

Quit?

What good would it do for her to just give up? What would happen if she didn?t even try to eat a little better or exercise a little more? That would only hasten her decline.

And what of you and your struggles?

Yes, achieving your goals and making progress in any area of life is hard. But what else are you going to do? Quit? Give up your self-reliance and depend on others?

No, you?re not going to do that. You?re going to persevere through the dips and overcome the obstacles that are in your way until you achieve the success you deserve.

If you smoke, but struggle to stop, are you just going to give in to the addiction until it kills you? Are you going to quit on quitting?

No, of course not.

Today you?re going to go two hours and fifteen minutes between cigarettes. Tomorrow, two hours and twenty-five minutes between puffs. And so on and so on until you are going days, weeks, months, and years without lighting up.

If you?re trying to lose 25 pounds but progress is slow, what are you going to do? Quit? Remain overweight and unhealthy? Start eating more and exercising less? No, of course not, that will only make it worse. If you fall off track today, then you?re just going to start again tomorrow.

If you?re building a new business, yes, it?s hard. Results won?t come overnight. But what else are you going to do? Quit? Go back to the job you hate, working for a boss that doesn?t appreciate your efforts and for a company that doesn?t make a real difference in the world?

No, of course not. You?re going to review your vision, put your energy into identifying the right solution for your chosen marketplace, and spend time on improving your offer until it connects with more and more of the people you are dedicated to helping.

You see, quitting only makes things worse. It might make things feel easier in the short-term, but, in the long run, quitting is the worst thing you can do.

Giving up on trying to quit smoking would make today easier, but your long-term health would suffer. Quitting your health and fitness program to sit on the couch will give you pleasure today but will make your later years more difficult and full of complications. And quitting on building your own business would reduce your stress this week but would lead to constant worry about the kind of life you?ll live during your retirement.

When the only other option is quitting ? and thereby making things worse ? then you have no other choice but to soldier on.

At Christmas time in 1944, while millions of men and women slept safe and sound in their beds in North America, thousands of young men faced the toughest task of their lives in the Battle of the Bulge. It was the largest and bloodiest battle fought by American soldiers in World War II.

They had stormed the beaches at Normandy. They had marched over 200 miles in the race to Berlin. They lost friends, scores of friends. And now, in the dead of winter, deep in the Ardennes forest, caught by surprise (at Christmas time no less), they were being attacked and pushed back like never before.

But what were they going to do? Quit?

No, for that would only have made it worse. Sure it would have been easier in the short-term not to fight, to retreat, to surrender, but that would only have made things worse for them, their fellow soldiers, and the entire war effort.

Instead, despite freezing in their foxholes day and night, wearing the same clothing for weeks on end, and being denied access to the basic elements of humanity, these young men dug in and took back the line. They sacrificed more than you or I will ever be asked to give, because they knew that quitting was not an option.

They were beyond the point of no return.

Just as you are past the point of no return in your journey to success.

Because what else are you going to do?

Quit?

No. You can quit when you?re dead. For now, it?s time to get out there and finish this journey. As you persevere, remember one of the mottos that I live by.

?It will all be over soon.?

All bad times come to end.

Until then, we are left with a powerful choice. To quit or to carry on. If we quit, we only make the ending worse. If we carry on, we will feel the situation getting harder at first. However, everyday that you make progress, things will get better and the future will become brighter.

Never forget this.

If you are dealing with a divorce, never forget that there will soon be better days. You will fall in love again. If you struggle financially, understand that there are proven methods to getting out of debt and getting back on track. If you are trying to overcome health problems, know that there are solutions and that there is support out there for you. You can succeed. You can take control of your future.

Persevere through the dips, and you?ll come out stronger on the other side.

Because what else are you going to do?

Quit?

Usher's Stepson, Kile Glover, Removed From Life Support

The young teenager was taken off life support weeks following a tragic jet skit accident.

After 21 days following a tragic jet ski accident Kille Glover, the stepson of Usher Raymond and biological child of ex-wife Tameka was taken off of life support. Weeks back it was reported that young Kile fell into a coma after the watercraft accident and was clinging to life.According to reports Tameka was tasked with the difficult decision to remove her son from life sùpport due to restrictions surrounding the familys insurance company. While it hasn't been confirmed theThe accident took place on Friday (July 6) when Glover and a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, were struck by a jet-ski while floating on an inner tube in Atlanta's Lake Lanier. Both children were airlifted to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston pediatric hospital. The girl is reported to have suffered from a cut on the head and a broken arm, while Glover took the brunt of the trauma to his head.The man driving the jet ski has been identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a family friend. At this time the police have determined that no drugs were involved, and no charges are being pressed. On Sunday TMZ reported that Glover was declared brain dead when doctors determined that he had not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital on Friday.In the weeks following the accident Tameka and family vowed to fight on hoping that a miracle would alter Kiles condition. "We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told CNN in a statement. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."Kile is the son of Tameka Foster, the ex-wife of singer Usher Raymond, and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover. Foster has three children from previous relationships prior to her marriage to Usher.

3 Tips to Decide Where to Take Your Family This Holiday

If you have kids, you know that deciding where to go on vacation can be difficult. One wants to go to the ocean park, the other skiing, you and your spouse probably want to go somewhere completely different

So how do you decide where to go, who pulls rank?

This decision should be based on a lot of different factors. Including:

Finances:

Families usually have limited funds for vacation, especially if there is more than one kid. Thus finances should be a huge decision factor, and sometimes it?s the only factor that really matters. If you can?t afford to go too far away, then you are more limited in choices.

Choose something that would make everyone happy such as a beach camping trip that includes local mountains for hiking, maybe a local winery for the adults, etc. This could include places such as:

Kangaroo Island, SA or Murray River, SA/VIC/NSW ? these can be inexpensive as well as offer a little of everything for family fun.

Weather

This is another big factor; if you?re traveling in winter you obviously can eliminate places that will be inaccessible and miserable. If it?s summer then obviously the beaches and islands, as well as lakes would be perfect.

If you plan your trip around weather, you might be surprised at what you come up with.

Transportation

Is where you want to go close enough to drive? Otherwise you?re looking to pay for airfare and/or train and that can get pricey for a family.

You might want to stay closer to home if you?re a big family and have limited finances. There are lots of things to do near Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and other bigger cities.

I was introduced to the Course in 1988 in response to the prayer: ?What is the solution to stress?? I abandoned all my previous studies and became totally absorbed into studying and teaching ACIM. I completed the Workbook and was very glad to have done so.

While working through the Course, I remember thinking that I wanted a Holy Relationship with my wife, and felt saddened and frustrated that she wasn?t at all interested in ACIM. Our relationship had always been very difficult, but I loved her deeply, and we soldiered on. Most of the time I felt very happy and loving to all I encountered, but it seemed that everything I said or did was wrong in my wife?s eyes. I kept on seeing these attacks as calls for love, but it was so relentless.

Things deteriorated between us and when our external circumstances became extremely difficult as well, we decided to split up. Our three children lived with my wife, while I visited and took them out at the weekends. This was obviously a very stressful period of our lives, but it wasn?t until then that I came to appreciate what is really meant by the ?special relationship? talked about in the Course.

As our lives gradually disentangled, I could clearly see how hidden manipulations and bargains played a large part in our relationship. I could see how I had taken her for granted, and how I had done very little to improve things. In retrospect, I could see that I played too much of a passive role in the name of ?keeping the peace,? while just hoping she was going to change. What I wasn?t doing was communicating. I wasn?t expressing my love in real terms. We never really talked things through, as she would get angry and I didn?t like her anger.

Meanwhile, my own anger was hidden and denied.

It is said that anger is love unexpressed and I can really see that now. I am not suggesting anger is justified in any way, but I have found it extremely important to be honest with myself, and to acknowledge what emotions I am feeling. I have discovered that it is possible for me to express myself from my ?Right Mind? or, in other words, to allow the Holy Spirit to speak for me. After all, that is the Christ within me, my divinity.

I have learned that my only real guide is how I feel. If I feel clear of emotion and therefore at peace, without tension in my stomach or chest area, I can trust that I am coming from my Right mind.

What the Course says can be misinterpreted in millions of different ways. God knows, I must have done them all !

Being real, expressing ourselves from our Divinity, even though it may upset another ego, is the challenge of the special relationship. It is how it can become the Holy Relationship, even though it may ?appear? that our openness is not reciprocated. Being open, undefended and direct are Christ-qualities. The idea is to let God come through us, and let God be concerned about the consequences, as only He can see the Whole Plan.

I think that we all need special relationships in order to practice being in Holy Relationships. So don?t hold back, let love express itself through you, without your judgement, concepts or beliefs getting in the way.

?Teach only love for that is what you are.?
