Facebook has filed for trademarks for Poke, the Snapchat-like app it released on Friday.
The company filed its application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Dec. 21, the day before the app went live. The Next Web reports that the company filed for two other trademarks as well, including for "Facebook Poke" and the logo for the iPhone app.
Poke, of course, has been a Facebook feature since the early days of the service. The company successfully applied for a U.S. trademark in 2006. However, the company let the trademark lapse in July 2011.
The app, which lets users send text, video and photo messages that self-destruct within 10 seconds, is very similar to Snapchat. That company's co-founder Evan Spiegel acknowledged Facebook's Poke with a brief statement on Friday: "Welcome, Facebook. Seriously."
